Who is Pete?
Pete owns PASECOM GROUP LTD and edits this website. Every page names him as editor and is reviewed by him before it is published and when it changes.
Pete is not a clinician. He is not a doctor, radiographer or radiologist, and nothing here is medical advice. His job is narrower: to check that what we say about prices, referral rules and reports matches what centres publish, to date every figure, to name every source, and to state the limits of a private scan before its benefits.
What does this website do?
- Explains. Each page says what a centre's published price includes, who can refer you, and what to ask before you pay.
- Dates and sources. Every price row links to the centre's own page and shows the date Pete checked it. The NHS wait figure names NHS England's release and its month. See Sources.
- Introduces, if you ask. If you use the form, we can pass your request to one independent imaging centre that covers your area. That is free for you; the centre may pay us. See how we make money.
What does this website not do?
We are not a clinic, not the NHS, not a radiology service and not a referrer. We do not scan anyone, read scans, decide whether you need a scan, write referrals, take payment from you, or hold a slot. We do not publish star ratings or rank centres, and we do not use photos of scanners that could suggest we run one.
Why England only?
Referral practice, NHS waiting data and regulators differ across the UK. NHS England publishes the diagnostic waiting figures we quote, and the Care Quality Commission enforces the radiation rules for medical scans in England. Until we have checked the rules elsewhere, we cover England only.
How can I check a centre myself?
Search for the provider on the Care Quality Commission website and read its registration and inspection reports. We do not copy ratings onto this site, because they change.
How do I report a mistake?
Email hello@private-ct.co.uk with the page address and what you think is wrong. We re-check it against the centre's own page and correct or delete the row. See our editorial policy.
What should you know before you ask for a CT?
This is not medical advice. We cannot tell you whether you need a CT scan. CT uses ionising radiation, so the law says every scan must be justified: a practitioner at the centre must decide the benefit outweighs the risk, using the details your referrer supplies (IR(ME)R 2017). No centre can promise a scan without that check, and a centre can say no. Some centres ask their own clinician to confirm the scan is appropriate. Many still want a letter from your GP or a specialist.
Insured scans need a referral and pre-authorisation from your insurer before you book. Contrast dye is often extra and is not for everyone. A centre may ask for a kidney-function blood test first, and you should tell it about allergies, kidney problems or diabetes medicine.
Chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, signs of a stroke, a head injury, or coughing up blood are not for this website or its form. Call 999.
