How Pete checks, dates and corrects every page on this site.

Last reviewed 5 October 2026 by Pete, editor (not a clinician). Prices checked 5 October 2026.

Pete, the editor, is not a clinician. Every figure is dated and sourced, every price row links to the centre's own page and is re-checked monthly, and we state the limit of a private CT before its benefit. Rows we cannot verify are deleted, not guessed, and prices are never averaged.

Who is responsible for what we publish?

Pete, the editor. He reviews every page before it is published and whenever it changes. He is not a clinician, so this site does not give medical advice. Where a medical point matters, we keep it general and point to the NHS or your own clinician.

What are our rules for facts?

  1. Every figure has a date and a source. Prices link to the centre's own page with the date checked. The NHS wait figure names the NHS England release and its month.
  2. Centres' own pages only. Not phone calls, adverts, comparison sites or price guides.
  3. Delete rather than guess. If we cannot re-check a price, the row goes. If a centre's pages disagree, we say so.
  4. No averages. We show each published price separately.
  5. Nothing invented. No made-up centres, prices, quotes, ratings or reviews.

How do we write?

Plain British English, short sentences, calm. The question you typed is the heading, and the first paragraph answers it on its own. We state the limit before the benefit. We never say someone needs a CT, and we never promise a CT without a referrer.

How often do we update?

Prices and the NHS wait figure on the first Monday of every month. Pages when a centre changes its rules or search data shows people asking a different question. Every page shows its last-reviewed date near the top and in the footer.

How do we handle corrections?

Email hello@private-ct.co.uk. We check against the original source, correct or delete, and update the review date.

How do we keep money separate from content?

Partner centres may pay us for introductions. That does not affect which prices we list, how we describe a centre or the order of a table. See how we make money.

Do we use AI tools?

Yes, as tools, to help draft pages and compare tables with centres' pages. Pete reviews every published page and is accountable for it.

How do we use structured data?

Article and FAQPage only, naming Pete as author with a link to about. We do not mark ourselves up as a clinic or medical organisation, and we publish no review markup.

What should you know before you ask for a CT?

This is not medical advice. We cannot tell you whether you need a CT scan. CT uses ionising radiation, so the law says every scan must be justified: a practitioner at the centre must decide the benefit outweighs the risk, using the details your referrer supplies (IR(ME)R 2017). No centre can promise a scan without that check, and a centre can say no. Some centres ask their own clinician to confirm the scan is appropriate. Many still want a letter from your GP or a specialist.

Insured scans need a referral and pre-authorisation from your insurer before you book. Contrast dye is often extra and is not for everyone. A centre may ask for a kidney-function blood test first, and you should tell it about allergies, kidney problems or diabetes medicine.

Chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, signs of a stroke, a head injury, or coughing up blood are not for this website or its form. Call 999.

How often are prices checked?

On the first Monday of every month, against each centre's own page.

How do I report an error?

Email hello@private-ct.co.uk with the page and the problem. We check the source and correct or delete.
