Sources and dates checked

Every figure on this site, with its source and the date it was checked.

Last reviewed 5 October 2026 by Pete, editor (not a clinician). Prices checked 5 October 2026.

Every price on this site comes from a centre's own web page, opened by Pete on 5 October 2026. The NHS wait figure comes from NHS England's diagnostic waiting times report for July 2026, published 10 September 2026. Referral wording comes from IR(ME)R 2017 on legislation.gov.uk and the Care Quality Commission. Rows we cannot re-check are deleted.

Where does the NHS CT wait figure come from?

NHS England's diagnostic waiting times report for July 2026 (DM01, published 10 September 2026) shows that 9.9% of the 196,277 people waiting for a CT scan had waited six weeks or more. The NHS operational standard is less than 1%. The same report shows 21.4% for MRI. It was the latest monthly release listed on NHS England's Monthly Diagnostics Data 2026-27 page when we checked on 5 October 2026.

Where does the referral and justification wording come from?

From The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017. Regulation 11 says an exposure must be justified by a practitioner as showing a sufficient net benefit. Regulation 10 says the referrer must give the practitioner enough medical information to decide. The Care Quality Commission says it enforces these regulations in England, in the independent sector and the NHS.

What do we not use as a source?

Comparison sites, price guides, forums, reviews and adverts. We read several 2026 price guides while researching, but we do not quote their figures; every price row is a centre's own page.

How often are sources re-checked?

On the first Monday of every month we reopen every centre URL, update or delete the row, and replace the NHS wait sentence with the latest NHS England release.

What should you know before you ask for a CT?

This is not medical advice. We cannot tell you whether you need a CT scan. CT uses ionising radiation, so the law says every scan must be justified: a practitioner at the centre must decide the benefit outweighs the risk, using the details your referrer supplies (IR(ME)R 2017). No centre can promise a scan without that check, and a centre can say no. Some centres ask their own clinician to confirm the scan is appropriate. Many still want a letter from your GP or a specialist.

Insured scans need a referral and pre-authorisation from your insurer before you book. Contrast dye is often extra and is not for everyone. A centre may ask for a kidney-function blood test first, and you should tell it about allergies, kidney problems or diabetes medicine.

Chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, signs of a stroke, a head injury, or coughing up blood are not for this website or its form. Call 999.

When were these prices checked?
