How do we make money?

This site is free for you, and a partner centre may pay us for an introduction.

Last reviewed 5 October 2026 by Pete, editor (not a clinician). Prices checked 5 October 2026.

This site is free for you. If you ask us to, we pass your request to one independent imaging centre that covers your area, and that centre may pay us a fee for the introduction. We never charge you, book your scan or hold a slot, and no centre can pay to be listed or ranked.

Who pays us, and when?

Only a partner imaging centre, and only if you asked us to pass your request to it. The fee is for the introduction. It is not a share of your scan price, and it does not change what you pay the centre. On 5 October 2026, no partner centre had agreed to take CT requests yet. Until one does, we store requests, nobody will contact you about them, and the thank-you page tells you so.

Does a fee change what we publish?

No. Price tables include centres that are not partners and may never be. A centre cannot pay to be listed, to appear higher, or to have its price shown differently. Rows are in price order, not ranked. We list a row because the price is published and checkable.

How many centres get my details?

One, and only if it covers your area and body area. If none does, the thank-you page tells you, we store your request, and we send it to no one.

How will I know if a centre is a partner?

The thank-you page tells you what happens to your request. If you want to know whether a particular centre has paid us, email hello@private-ct.co.uk and we will tell you.

What do we expect from a partner centre?

That it is registered with the Care Quality Commission, contacts you only about the request you made, gives you a clear price before you agree to anything, applies the referral and justification rules properly, and does not pressure you. If a centre treats you badly, tell us.

Do we make money from tracking?

No. We do not run advertising trackers or sell data. If analytics is switched on and you accept it, we count visits and completed requests without your name, email, phone number or postcode. See the privacy notice.

What should you know before you ask for a CT?

This is not medical advice. We cannot tell you whether you need a CT scan. CT uses ionising radiation, so the law says every scan must be justified: a practitioner at the centre must decide the benefit outweighs the risk, using the details your referrer supplies (IR(ME)R 2017). No centre can promise a scan without that check, and a centre can say no. Some centres ask their own clinician to confirm the scan is appropriate. Many still want a letter from your GP or a specialist.

Insured scans need a referral and pre-authorisation from your insurer before you book. Contrast dye is often extra and is not for everyone. A centre may ask for a kidney-function blood test first, and you should tell it about allergies, kidney problems or diabetes medicine.

Chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, signs of a stroke, a head injury, or coughing up blood are not for this website or its form. Call 999.

Is Private CT free to use?

Yes. You never pay us. A partner centre may pay us a fee if you ask us to pass your request to it.

Do centres pay to be listed in your tables?

No. The tables include centres that are not partners. Rows are in price order, not ranked.
